If you are looking for peace, tranquility and a luxurious atmosphere we invite you to be our guest at the African Lodge, nestled in a leafy suburb north of Johannesburg (South Africa) and situated on a little piece of paradise in Buccleuch, the undiscovered jewel of Sandton, midway between the N1 (from Pretoria and Roodepoort/Cape Town), the N3 (from Durban and Johannesburg International Airport). This makes our Guest Lodge very well located for both the Business person and the Tourist who want the tranquility of the country and easy access to Sandton, Johannesburg, Woodmead, Midrand, Bryanston, Rivonia, Fourways, Sunninghill, Linbro Park and Pretoria.

Your hosts, Yvonne and Gerard van Schendel invite you to share their little paradise. Yvonne and Gerard came from Holland to live in South Africa in 1996 and are therefore well aware of European standards and hospitality.

The safe property (with electric fence) is set on 4.000 m2 indigenous gardens, overlooking a sparkling pool, surrounded by an abundance of bird life. The whole atmosphere at African Lodge is heartfelt, friendly and highly luxurious. Awake to the calls of the birds and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in our Dining Room with double opening doors overlooking the garden, the pool and the fishpond. Stroll in the gardens and enjoy the fresh air and peace of the country, whilst only ten minutes away of Sandton, South Africa’s premier business and entertainment centre, as well as Sandton City shopping centre. Return from a busy day in the city and relax over a cool drink at our Bar, with the tinkling sound of the water from the fishpond in the background.

All five luxurious twin rooms have been individually and stylishly decorated with a Big Five Theme, exuding a real African ambience, immediately making guests feel at home and relaxed. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with a large separate shower, a corner bath, two washbasins and toilet and are supplied with toiletries. Furthermore dressing room, personal wall safe, TV, radio/alarm clock, mini-bar/fridge, desk (dressing table), relaxing sitting area, tea and coffee making facilities, tourist information file, ceiling fans, hair dryers, towels, gowns, oil heaters (for winter evenings) and a private verandah. In short the well-appointed rooms have all the facilities a guest would require. Due to government regulations, the rooms are non-smoking.

Our two executive suites are also stylishly decorated with the Big Five Theme and have a lounge, a fully equipped desk (with broadband internet access), air conditioning / heater, an en-suite bathroom with double washbasins, toilet, bath, separate shower unit with massage shower and heater. Furthermore the suites are equipped with personal wall safe, TV (Satellite TV at additional cost) radio/alarm clock, mini-bar/fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, tourist information file, hair dryers, towels, gowns, electric blankets (for winter evenings) and a private veranda. In short the well-appointed suites have all the facilities a business man / guest would require. Due to government regulations, the suites are non-smoking.

In our entertainment area you can enjoy DSTV (Satellite TV), Home Theatre, Video, or just enjoy a drink at our well stocked bar; run as a honesty bar you can be the barman and enjoy a tot or two of your favourite tipple. A good selection of books, videos and DVD’s are also available.

Meals (lunch and dinner) are served on request only (we do not run a commercial restaurant). Enjoy Dinner, a Braai (South African Barbeque) or Chinese Braai in our Boma at the crackling campfire, whilst listening to the night sounds of Africa and gazing up into the star-strewn skies. Dinner can also be served in our elegant Dining Room. Alternatively transport to restaurants in the area can be arranged too.

    Airport Transfers, Tours and Activities:
  1. Airport Transfers to and from Johannesburg International Airport (20 minutes) or Lanseria Airport (20 minutes)
  2. Tours, both local and country wide can be arranged, p.e.: Krugerpark (4 days) or Krugerpark, Swaziland and Mozambique (10 days).

  6. A real African experience is a stay at a Private Game Farm. African Lodge is able to offer a true wild life experience at decreased rates at one of the best Private Game Farms in the Limpopo (Northern) Province (malaria free). Not to be missed!

  8. Welwitchia Country Craft Market and Hartbeespoortdam (1 hour drive)
  9. The world famous Cradle of Humankind Heritage Site – discovery of Mrs Ples, 2.5 million years ago in the Sterkfontein Caves.
  10. The Wild Cheetah Centre – learn about the Research and Breeding of these rare and endangered species (One hours drive)
  11. Soweto Tour – experience the diversity of the people and cultures in one of the largest black cities in Africa, eventually combined with a Johannesburg Tour.
  12. Lesedi Cultural Village – your orientation at Lesedi begins in the fascinating African theatre where “Musi” the story teller introduces you to the ancient tribal legends and the story of Lesedi, followed by a tour through the villages of the Ndebele, the Zulu’s, the Basotho, the Xhosa and the Pedi. Then enjoy the spectacle of the “Giant Ingoma”, the traditional dance of the before mentioned tribes. Your visit is concluded by “Nyama Choma” the greatest African feast, sample traditional dishes from around the African continent. (1 hours drive)
  13. The World of Beer, the fun-filled showcase of Brewing of South African Breweries (20 minutes drive)
  14. Bruma Market World, take a journey where cultures collide in a riot of colours, shapes, textures and smells that are as diverse as the Rainbow Nations of Africa (20 minutes drive) and on Sundays the Rosebank Roof Top Market.
  15. Gold Reef City; relive the history of the first gold mining activities in Johannesburg. Visit the gold pour, do an underground tour through the gold mine; just have a fun day! Opposite Gold Reef City you will find the Apartheids Museum (20 minutes drive)
  16. Pretoria; Union Buildings, Voortrekkers Monument, Cullinan Diamond Mines.
  17. For the evening a trip to Monte Casino, a Tuscan village complex comprising, shops, restaurants and a casino is a must.
