 An idyllic beach front boutique lodge in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds. Nestled in its own private bay, tucked between pohutukawa and palm trees lies the Lazy Fish Guest House. Enjoy your own private bungalow, with a four-poster bed, out-door bath, terrace and private garden. The perfect place for a relaxed and romantic get-a-way. The Lazy Fish can only be reached after a 20 minute boat ride from Picton, through the stunning Marlborough Sounds of the South Island of New Zealand. Our guest house combines a subtle mixture of top quality service and a friendly holiday home atmosphere. We have four very private bungalows on the beach and in the gardens; each with a four-poster bed, bathroom, private garden, terrace and an outdoor bath. We also have a beach apartment ten metres from the sea with a bedroom, living room, veranda and day bed. Persian rugs on herringbone parquet floors and beautifully crafted furniture decorate the guest rooms. The main house is stylishly decorated with paintings, sculptures and photographs. The breath taking views across the bay to the mountains, from the verandas are to die for. A beautiful terrace to the side of the house is inlaid with intricate glass mosaics creating an ideal spot for lounging in the sun while enjoying a long lunch. Another courtyard, encircled with wisteria vines and recessed candle sconces creates a magical place for evening dining. Our resident chef provides all meals served in the dining room or alfresco, and home baked cakes and treats are always available. Many of our dishes reflect Mediterranean and French cooking styles. For the energetic there are kayaks, a rowboat, fishing and snorkelling gear, board games and puzzles. Over the following year we are moving towards a Members-Only Guest House. During this transition period, as we continue to gather membership, the Fish remains open to both those with temporary membership and the public. What's happening? The Lazy Fish is on the road to becoming a members-only retreat only accessible to a small group of like-minded people. They will be able to use as if it were their own holiday house in the Sounds, but with a twist. Why the change? The Lazy Fish began in 1989. From that time, the owner Chris Warren has worked hard to create a relaxed casual and stylish atmosphere for guests and staff alike. Many guests have returned again and again to the Fish. The record so far is 21 times, (thanks Gary). When guests return, they bring with them a familiarity, an obvious pleasure in coming back that is relaxing both to other guests and staff. At times, several returning guests have been at the Fish together, generating more the mood of a holiday house filled with friends. This very special atmosphere is what Chris wishes to make permanent, hence the plan to make the Fish a members-only Guest House.
