Mount Gambier Jail, Backpackero
Who are we?
A love of old buildings and the desire for a different way of life is what drives Gary Adam. These goals have been satisfied by the changing use of The Jail and the opportunity to cater for travelers from around the world. Patricia Flury, Gary's partner fell in love with Australia while visiting as a backpacker. Formerly from Switzerland, Patricia speaks French, German, English and Italian. Many guests are surprised to hear their native tongue in Mount Gambier. A passionate sportsperson, Patricia has been competing in triathlons for many years. A belief that "low cost does not have to mean low quality" results in great value for our guests and associates.
Located in the south-east corner of South Australia, Mount Gambier has a booming population of 24,000. You will pass through the city when travelling to or from the Great Ocean Road en route between Melbourne and Adelaide.
The mainstays of Mount Gambier are pinus radiata plantations, associated timber mills and a strong agricultural economy.
There are many natural attractions that beautify Mount Gambier - dormant volcanoes, the world-famous Blue Lake (where the water literally turns blue between November and March), caves, sink holes and park-like pastures sprinkled with majestic red gums.
